Ballroom:American Waltz
Instructor: Laura Davis
At the end of this session, students will be familiar with specific characteristics of American Waltz; These include Music and Rhythm.
We will focus on partnering techniques(i.e. lead and follow),proper body alighment (i.e. head shoulders, hips, feet), and technical footwork (i.e. rise and fall, heels and toes). Students will be able to demonstrate with and without a partner the following figures:

Ballroom will be working on their perfomance routine November 8,10,15,17,22,24,29,December 1,6,8,13,&15.
The Fall perfomance will incorporate all learned technical steps into a routine. All students must be in Ballroom shoes in order to perfom.
Clothing:Both young men and women will need to be in neat, modest, comfortable clothing. Shoes: This semester we will be practicing in ballroom shoes. In order to keep growing children in a properly sized shoe we will be adding on a $40.00 shoe rental fee. This will be especially advantageous if your child's fee grow during the current semester. Just return the shoe in good condition and exchange it for the next size up.
Lyrical/Contemporary

General Goals and Objectives: To introduce students to concepts related to;
1. The Body as an Instrument
2. The Elements of Dance
3. The Artform of Dance
4. The Aesthetics of Dance
5. Dance and Healthful Living
6. Dance and other Disiplines
The Body as an Instrument- Develop an awareness that the body can be used as a form of self expression. Develop the skill of using the body as an instrument by building strength, flexibility, endurance, articulation, agility, alighment, coordination, and awareness.
The Elements of Dance- Develop an understanding of the basic elements of dance: time, space, weight, flow and energy.
The Art Form of Dance- Teach the students how to make dance through communicating organized feelig and ideas, imaginatively, through improvisation, choreography and perfomance.
The Aesthetics of Dance- Cultivate overall artistic sensitivity by studying the beauty in dance and the emotional responses to it. Gain an appreciaition of dance as an art form, how a dance is made and perfomed, by participating in its creation and perfomance.
Dance and Healthful Living- Understand and value personal uniqueness. Listen to the needs of a healthy body.
Dance and other Disciplines- Create dances that cultivate an understanding of a concept or idea from other art discipline (Dramatic, visual, Auditory, etc.)
Hip Hop
Instructor: Kellsey Ball
Goals for the Semester: 1. Work on Flexibility and Musicality.
2. Introducing different origins of hip hop such as, Popping, Locking, Krump and Funk.
3. Bringing out the creativeness and one's self expression through the art of hip hop dance
4. Understanding the movement of the body and espressing emotions through hip hop music
September 7th- December 15th: Class will be structured as follows:
Center Floor Work- will consist of short combonations to get the body used to various beats and styles of hip hop choreography.
Across Floors- Improvisation, This challenges the student to step outside of the comfort zone and learn and expound upon expressing their emotions through the music
Choreography-Various choreographed peices of hip hop dance to challenge the students.
*Will be working on performence routine November 1st- December 15th.
Clothing: All students need to wear comfortable tennis shoes that support and stay on the foot, loose clothing (i.e. sweats, basketball shorts capris, t-shirts, tanks) No jeans or jewlery.
Tumbling
Instructor: Stacy Aplington
Goals for the semester: 1. To achieve flexibility and muscle control. To perfect handstands and forward rolls (September)
2. To achieve nice straight leg cartwheels on both sides (October)
3. To achieve roundoffs and if time round off straddle jump (November)
4. Every student frogstand with legs up to straddle postion, back together and down with control (December)

Goals for the semester: 1. Acting, Music, and Dance exercises to strengthen acting, singing, and Dance Skills.
2. Learn how to audition for a Musical (choose song and monologues or poems)
3. (Sturdy Beggars) Learn Technical Theatre aspects: lighting, set, construction, props, cotumes etc.
September: Prepare for auditions for Christmas Plays
October: Work on Christmas Plays
November: Work on Christmas Plays
December: Perfect Christmas Plays and Perform for Audience
